Lily, my cat is ripping her hair out, whyyyyyyyyyyyy?

This past summer Lily had a few fleas. I used Front Line, she has had multiple baths in the past six months. Pretty sure she doesn%26#039;t have any fleas left since she also doesn%26#039;t have nearly as much of that beautiful long hair left either. She is no longer allowed to sleep in my room because her constant itching and twitching keeps me awake at night. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tish

Lily, my cat is ripping her hair out, whyyyyyyyyyyyy?
Same thing happened to my cat. She had a food allergy.

Read the food label. If it contains any corn or wheat products (which are the biggest allergens, and should never be fed to dogs or cats), or anything you can%26#039;t pronounce, consider changing brands.

Look into Innova EVO (the best in my opinion), Artemis, Felidae, or Wellness. All are good, all have websites.
Reply:ticks or fleas probably. Give her Frontline or something or take her to the vet
Reply:Cat%26#039;s generally don%26#039;t need baths. It dries out their skin and makes them itch. In some cases it will cause them to scratch so much that they will pull out their own fur. I suggest you contact a vet to see if they have a moisturizer you can use for her. You also might want to try a different flea medication. She may be allergic to the stuff you are using now.

Maybe a different pet food? There are lots of different thigs to try. But, I would suggest contacting a vet first.
Reply:She may be allergic to the flea collar as a precautionary take it off her or discontinue her treatments until her behavior returns to normal

Good luck

Reply:Take her to the vet

The Frontline could have caused a negative physical reaction.
Reply:Sounds like she has some type of skin allergy, check with the vet.
Reply:It could be a reaction to the Front Line, or stress. When my husband goes on deployment my cat will lick herself hairless around one of her nipples. My friends cat will eat his hair till he is totally bald when his owner goes on deployment.
Reply:First, check and make sure she has no fleas. Also, you could be bathing her too much dogs/cats don%26#039;t need to bath on a daily basis like we do, it drys out their fur/skin. There is this shampoo that is for itching from all sorts of different conditions, here is the link:

I have used this on my pets and it seemed to make them feel better.
Reply:Sounds like she needs another dose of frontline.
Reply:Have her checked for mange, because loss of fur in animals is usually a sign of mange mites.
Reply:It sounds like an allergy. Frontline absorbs into the bloodstream and is a slow release medication (meaning it can cause a long drawn out allergy) Call your vet and tell them what is going on. Your kitty may need an antihistamine for awhile. Also ask your vet if you should continue baths (and if so ask WHICH shampoo to use. Cats are VERY sensitive!!)
